About Australian Labradoodles
Sweet Apple Australian Labradoodles specializes in authentic multi-generational Australian Labradoodles from established Australian Labradoodle lines.
These dogs are known for their intelligence, affectionate temperament, trainability, and soft, low-shedding coats. They were purposefully developed to combine the qualities of an exceptional family companion with the temperament and trainability desired for therapy, assistance, and service work.
The Australian Labradoodle has its origins in Australia in the late 1980s, when breeders began developing dogs intended to combine a highly trainable temperament with an allergy-friendly, low-shedding coat.
While the earliest Labradoodles began with Labrador Retriever and Poodle crosses, the Australian Labradoodle developed into a multigenerational breeding program of its own. Breeders selected dogs over successive generations for consistency in temperament, coat, size, structure, and companionship.
Are they different than Labradoodles?
Today, authentic multi-generational Australian Labradoodles are distinct from a first-generation Labrador–Poodle cross. Their pedigrees are developed over many generations with the goal of producing more predictable qualities from one generation to the next. This results in a consistent temperament, size, and low-shedding coat characteristics compared with typical first-generation crosses.
The Australian Labradoodle is an established multi-generational breed developed through decades of selective breeding for temperament, coat, health, and consistency. It is not currently recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC). Instead, Australian Labradoodle pedigrees and breeding standards are maintained through breed-specific organizations and registries. AKC recognition is a separate formal process and is not what determines whether a population of dogs can be described as a developed breed.

Australian Labradoodles are especially known for being people-oriented dogs.
They tend to form strong bonds with their families and are often described as affectionate, intuitive, playful, intelligent, and eager to learn. Those qualities can make them excellent companions for families, individuals, and people interested in therapy or assistance work.
Their coats are typically soft and wavy or fleece-like and are generally low shedding. While no dog can be guaranteed to be completely hypoallergenic, Australian Labradoodles are often sought out by families concerned about shedding or sensitivity to dog hair and dander.
They are also highly trainable dogs that generally thrive on interaction with people. They enjoy learning, playing, exploring, and—perhaps most importantly—being included in everyday family life.

Our dogs are authentic multi-generational Australian Labradoodles rather than first-generation Labrador and Poodle crosses. This allows breeding decisions to be made with greater knowledge of ancestry, temperament, coat characteristics, size, and health history across generations.

Raised to Be Family Dogs
Our puppies are raised in a family environment from birth.
We believe the first weeks of a puppy's life matter. Puppies benefit from regular handling, interaction with people, age-appropriate experiences, and the sights and sounds of normal family life as they grow.
Our goal is to give each puppy a strong beginning and then place that puppy in a home where it will continue to receive the training, care, companionship, and attention it needs throughout its life.
Health and Responsible Breeding
Good breeding involves more than selecting two beautiful dogs.
We consider temperament, health history, pedigree, structure, and genetic screening when evaluating breeding dogs and planning litters. We also make health-testing information about our breeding dogs available to prospective puppy families so they can make an informed decision.
The Sweet Apple Story
Sweet Apple is a small, family-supported breeding program in Levant, Maine.
The program is owned by Joy Kenerson, who began working toward becoming a breeder after her family fell in love with Australian Labradoodles. She works with the mentorship and guidance of Jayme Chase of Log Cabin Labradoodles, who has more than 20 years of experience raising Australian Labradoodles.
